Megan's actions
Family
Learn about Environmental Justice
Using the action resource links below, my family will spend 30 minutes learning about environmental justice, causes of environmental injustice, and how plastic waste disproportionately impacts already vulnerable communities.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 1 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 20 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant a herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Food
Advocate for Plastic-Free Dining
I will talk to the owner or manager of a restaurant I frequent to request that they reduce their use of single-use and disposable plastics.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with a sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable option.
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 20 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Megan Anderson 7/31/2022 5:08 AMAnother great July. I’m so thankful to be doing this with so many other people- it’s nice to appreciate how many people care. -
Megan Anderson 7/29/2022 5:05 AMThis month always flies by so fast. I'm excited to gift friends and family plastic free laundry sheets and dishwasher detergent! I'm happy this pushed me to involve my kids more. -
Megan Anderson 7/21/2022 6:54 AMI love how this month keeps pushing me to dig deeper. -
Megan Anderson 7/19/2022 6:23 AMI was surprised to learn that plastic free options for laundry detergent are not more expensive. They basically take laundry powder and stamp it into sheets so that it can be transported in a non-plastic envelope. I plan on distributing samples to family and friends and local buy nothing group so they can give it a try without the upfront cost.-
Megan Anderson 7/29/2022 5:08 AMI'm still using Eartbest right now - I haven't tested Bluewater. I'm not sure if they meant to but UPS did end up wrapping Bluewater's packages in plastic when shipping them - maybe that's because I got two boxes to try instead of one? -
Megan Anderson 7/23/2022 7:54 AMI just tried Earthbest and it seemed to work well. I’m also trying out BlueWater. BlueWater is better priced. Both don’t use any plastics and carbon offset shipping and are made in the US. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONPetsIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Megan Anderson 7/12/2022 9:16 AMI don't really keep up with fashion but I am a sucker for a bargain and it was interesting to think of the hidden costs (both environmental and social justice) of a good deal. My buy nothing group passes around a bag of clothes that you can take from or add to. I will be trying harder to stick to those practices in the future. -
Megan Anderson 7/12/2022 9:11 AMSo excited to try an activity with my kids. Give them post its and have them identify all the plastic they can find in the bathroom/bedroom. I love the idea of raising their awareness around plastics. -
Megan Anderson 6/07/2022 11:05 AMSo ready for this! Laila and I will be leading up National Aquarium this year and we are so excited!
