Community
Share My Actions

I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant a herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Food
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Food
Advocate for Plastic-Free Dining
I will talk to the owner or manager of a restaurant I frequent to request that they reduce their use of single-use and disposable plastics.

Personal Care
Sustainable Suds

Community
Give Some Green Gratitude
I will give a shout-out on social media to a local company, coworker, friend or family member for their plastic free or green efforts.

I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Personal Care
See the Green
I will recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Community
Become a Recycling Pro
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Community
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Lifestyle
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Personal Care
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Community
Watch a Plastic themed documentary.
Watch film "Smog of the Sea" to learn more about the impact of plastic in our oceans. Be inspired by the unique crew and see that anyone can make a difference.
Community
Estimate My Plastic Consumption
I will visit the rePurpose website, complete the 3-minute plastic consumption calculator, and explore how I can reBalance my annual plastic footprint.
Community
Host a Watch Party
I will host a watch party with friends and/or colleagues to watch and discuss a movie about plastics.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareCurrently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 1:02 PMBy avoiding products that use plastic packaging and encoring others to do the same, we can slowly encourage companies to move toward non-plastic packaging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareDisposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:56 PMBy switching from disposable period products, I'm saving almost $40 a month. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:55 PMBy switching to steel razors I found my safe saving at the store, and in this day and age, every little bit helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPetsHow are caring for your pet and caring for the environment connected for you?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:46 PMI see my dog as the extension of the environment. By investing in green products for him I'm investing into the environment too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPetsIn what ways does your pet make your life happier, more interesting, or more rewarding?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyMost of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:41 PMI try to limit the amount of plastic items I purchase, as well as replace single-use plastics with reusable ones, and I make make sure to have a separate bin for recyclable items. Doing so makes me feel as if I having a large impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:38 PMWhat concerns me the most is how many animals are quickly going extinct due to human actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
Kira Babiarz 7/27/2022 12:37 PMThis not only limits our plastic waste but allows us to eat healthier.
