Laura 's actions
Community
Give Some Green Gratitude
I will give a shout-out on social media to a local company, coworker, friend or family member for their plastic free or green efforts.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Pets
Use paper bags to remove litter box waste instead of plastic
I always reuse the plastic bags I get at the grocery to remove waste from my cat’s box. Instead of even getting plastic bags I’ll use my reusable bags at the grocery and use paper to remove waste.
Community
Research Local Waste Sites
I will spend 15 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Laura Baker 7/30/2022 1:14 PMThis challenge opened my eyes about how many products I buy (we all buy) that include plastic packaging. It’s far too many. I am already more mindful about what I purchase and will do what I can to stop supporting the use of plastics. -
Laura Baker 7/30/2022 12:52 PMThis is an eye-opening challenge because it showed me how MUCH PLASTIC we all use everywhere. It’s hard to escape and requires a dedicated effort all year, every year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

Laura Baker 7/22/2022 12:18 PMIt’s surprisingly difficult to make an actual plastic-free meal. I’m looking at ways to improve my own habits. -
