REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you learn about bioplastic production and disposal? Did anything surprise you? Are bioplastics accepted by your city's waste management?
Lielle Berman 7/26/2022 2:18 PMSeems like bioplastics are mostly wishful thinking that we can have our cake (plastic) and eat it, too. BUT, if we're selective in how it's used and have good systems in place to manage its end-of-life, it would be really beneficial for things like cheese that need air-tight wrapping for food safety. -
Lielle Berman 7/12/2022 10:34 AMI love challenges like this one, because they keep me motivated to stay aware of how my habits and actions impact people and planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Lielle Berman 7/07/2022 8:02 PMI have made extraordinary efforts over the past 7-8 years to eliminate my plastic footprint...it's taken a LOT of creative problem solving, research, and experimentation to reduce the amount of plastic my household consumes. BUT...even with all that, there are SO many plastic items I just CAN'T avoid... Even though the calculator estimated my footprint as lower than the American and European averages, it's frustrating that all my best and persistent efforts can only take me so far... Without large-scale system changes that eliminate plastic and waste upstream, I'm pretty sure we'll never be a truly plastic-free household. -

Lielle Berman 7/06/2022 7:53 AMI'm so happy to see this news....so many people I talk to about zero-waste and plastic-free living feel like our individual actions are insignificant drops in the bucket...but with a country like India turning off the gushing plastic faucet, the impact will really be significant, and will surely have implications for the future of the disposable plastics industry 😅
