  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets
How could you reduce your waste even further (i.e. by making pet treats out of kitchen scraps or about-to-go-bad produce)?

There are SO many easy ways to reduce food waste:

I freeze food scraps in a Stasher bag, then use it to make veggie stock, which I then feed to my two German Shepherds!

I also use typically discarded green (carrot tops, for example) and veggies to create whole food supplements for my fur babies.

Freeze in season berries and other stone fruit for later use in homemade sorbet, smoothies, and slushy drinks in the summer.

Properly storing produce in the fridge/on the counter to extend longevity. I use a terry cloth Vejibag to keep my leafy greens crisp for weeks!

Last weekend I attended a Protect Our Beaches clean up at Alki Beach in West Seattle, organized by United By Blue and Corona. It was great engaging with like minded individuals who care about the environment.
In less than two hours, our group of 35-40 volunteers cleaned up a total of 72 pounds of trash from reaching the ocean!

I connected with the local organization Puget Soundkeeper and learned of more clean up activities within my community, specifically for salmon and seals.
This beach clean up also has me thinking of starting my own weekly clean up!
