Tammy's actions
Lifestyle
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Family
Learn about Environmental Justice
Using the action resource links below, my family will spend 30 minutes learning about environmental justice, causes of environmental injustice, and how plastic waste disproportionately impacts already vulnerable communities.
Lifestyle
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day.
Personal Care
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?
Tammy Burnett 7/27/2022 7:57 AMIt was super easy for me to switch to refillable options for my dish/laundry soap. I'm not a fan of shopping. This approach allows me to load up and refill as needed, without a having to go to a store multiple times. It's a win/win. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleOften, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?
Tammy Burnett 7/27/2022 7:55 AMIt's not just creating more trash that's the problem. Plastic bags can take up to 1,000 years to disintegrate. Americans throw away 100 billion bags per year!-
Debra Lee Norton Wear 7/29/2022 7:11 AMDisposable diapers also cause problems in landfills because they take a long time to decompose

Tammy Burnett 7/27/2022 7:47 AMSo proud of the efforts of my OKC Zoo team on this plastic free ecochallenge. You are the people saving this planet!
The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Tammy Burnett 7/19/2022 8:08 AMPicking up litter making me hyper aware of how not aware the average citizen is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareEven though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?
Tammy Burnett 7/19/2022 8:06 AMFlushable wipes are a bane to public sewer systems. I'm happy to take this action and want to spread the word in hopes of eliminating "flushable" wipes.
