Another great tip is reusing plastic take out containers. Of course it's best to avoid take out containers, but many of these can be reused or repurposed!

An easy way to reduce plastic is by buying reusable zip lock bags! Think about how wasteful it is to use a zip lock bag to store something for a couple hours, just to throw it out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle
What did you learn by making your own cleaning products? What is the biggest difference in making vs buying?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/20/2022 5:53 AM
I like to make my own cleaning products because I know exactly what's in them. They're also just as effective and cheaper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets
How could you reduce your waste even further (i.e. by making pet treats out of kitchen scraps or about-to-go-bad produce)?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/20/2022 5:52 AM
By composting food scraps, donating good food, or sharing left overs with family and friends

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Family
How do environmental health, community health, and your family's health intersect?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/19/2022 8:50 AM
As we are all living in an interconnected system, the health of one thing also connects to the health of the other. For example, air pollution not only hurts the earth, but also the community and family breathing the Earth. As pollution continues to increase, so do cases of asthma.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle
What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/19/2022 8:46 AM
The benefits of a sharing economy are that you can save money by not buying something to use once, help the environment by sharing instead of buying, and better connect with friends, family, and your neighborhood. My town has a "free-cycle" page which allows town members to give away items they no longer use, or lend items to people in the town.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets
In what ways does your pet make your life happier, more interesting, or more rewarding?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/12/2022 5:48 AM
My pet always keeps me company, pushes me to go for long walks, and is there for me when I'm not having a good day
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Family
How does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/08/2022 5:16 AM
Not only does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies help reduce plastic, it also gives you a healthy delicious option that is more natural.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/06/2022 5:54 AM
Thrifting and sharing clothes with family and close friends is a way to express your personality creativity and values without the impacts of high fashion. Additionally, expressing yourself can come in many shapes. Instead of using fashion, you can express yourself through art, music, pictures.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems - like plastic pollution - differently?

    Zachery Calle's avatar
    Zachery Calle 7/06/2022 5:51 AM
As a species, humans have long been able to solve complex problems through creative thinking and technology. Sometimes when problems seem too large to overcome, the best way to approach them is by thinking outside the box
