Ana's actions
Personal Care
See the Green
I will recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Personal Care
Pearly Whites
I will switch to a plastic-free toothpaste — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Community
Research Local Waste Sites
I will spend 60 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Family
Thoughtful Toys
I will only buy cloth, wooden or plant-based natural rubber toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Community
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a beach, highway, river, or other cleanup effort in my community that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support a nonprofit dedicated to plastic pollution reduction.
Lifestyle
Proper Bioplastic Disposal
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching how to properly dispose of bioplastics in my city and share this information with 3 friends, family, and/or colleagues.
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 5 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Food
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Community
Share My Actions
I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.
Personal Care
Donate Zero Waste Period Products
I will donate 10 zero waste period kits to young people with periods so that they can reduce their waste and the financial burden of menstruation while continuing their education.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors.
Personal Care
A Sustainable Flow
I will make the switch to sustainable, reusable period products.
Personal Care
Eco Deodorant
I will switch to a plastic-free deodorant — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Personal Care
Brush with Bamboo
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds

I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.

I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.

Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 8:50 PMOne of the things I learned from this that I will carry over is the eco paint information. I recently purchased a home and looking into redoing the paint in certain areas. This lead me to a paint recycle program (PaintCare)we can implement or partner with in my profession as well. -
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 8:20 PMI was surprised that Starbucks gave me a reusable cup. I was expecting. A disposable like always. I hadn’t planned to stop so I didn’t have my own cup with me. Now I keep this in my cars glove box for future use. Idk if this is at all Starbucks or just this location. -
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:49 PMLint roller alternative! I recently adopted another dog and was going through lint roll refills like crazy. I finally found something I don’t have to buy single use sheets for. I found it at a warehouse type thrift shop. -
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:42 PMThese are the safety razor blades we’ve been using for years and still haven’t made a dent in the box. Astra blades. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care See the GreenTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:36 PMI’ve been collecting my lenses for a while. I was on weekly lenses, but will ask for monthly pairs on my next visit. I try to keep my lens use because of the waste they create, both the lens and supplies needed to care for them. -
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:15 PMRecently purchased glass bottles to make my own cleaners! Love these from Big Bee Little Bee! they have a protective silicone sleeve.-

Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:11 PMThis has been so fun! I’m glad to have kept up with it as long as I did. I found the best way for me to reduce my trips to the water cooler. Lol Larger water bottle! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 7:02 PMFood waste. I’m terrible in the kitchen! Most of my waste is from fast food when I can’t dine in. When I try to cook at home I forget I have certain items and end up having to bin them. -
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 3:46 PMOur kitchen reusable items. Most of them purchased second hand/thrift. Silicone bags, fruit covers, bowl covers, coffee sock. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Raise Money For a NonprofitWhat are organizations in your region doing to address plastic pollution or other related issues? How can you support them?
Ana Casanova 7/31/2022 3:36 PMThe city beautification group focused on keeping litter off the streets. They also encourage those who “adopt” a section of the city to sort the litter between recycle and trash. It’s all volunteer run.
