REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Brittany Connelly 7/06/2022 12:09 PMHaving plenty of reusable bags has been a big help with this challenge. The accessibility of reusable bags in stores and as freebies has also helped with this. I'm always surprised when folks don't have bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Brittany Connelly 7/06/2022 11:55 AMBy utilizing the local business with refill options (Vintage Green Review) I'm helping to support a local business as well as eliminate another plastic bottle from ending up in the trash/recycling stream. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityIn what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?
Brittany Connelly 7/04/2022 8:13 AMSo many folks are on their phones and utilize social media for news/info. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Brittany Connelly 7/04/2022 8:06 AMWhile I produce less waste than the average American, it's still estimated that I produce 36kg per year! While I've already made small changes, I can still do more, especially at the grocery store. Looking for bulk refill options for groceries is my next step! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Brittany Connelly 7/03/2022 9:48 AMPicked up at least 25 pieces of trash in just three blocks from my house. A bulk of these bottles were in a storm drain. The rest of the trash was cigar wraps, snack wrappers and some other miscellaneous items. I hope the daily act of picking up litter in the community will encourage others to do the same. -
Brittany Connelly 7/01/2022 12:31 PMHAPPY PLASTIC FREE JULY!! So excited to be a part of this challenge again this year. #plasticfreeNOLA -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Brittany Connelly 7/01/2022 12:24 PMContinue to encourage individuals to stop using plastic bottles and make the change to a re-usable bottle. If we decrease the demand, that will decrease the supply and therefore help those in need. Letting folks know about the individuals harmed in the process in these conversations can instill empathy to make changes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
Brittany Connelly 7/01/2022 12:19 PMMaking coffee at home is a big help (and money saver!). The next time I'm thinking about coffee from a local shop, I'll check in with them before to see if they accept to go mugs.
