Karla's actions
Food
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Lifestyle
Proper Bioplastic Disposal
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching how to properly dispose of bioplastics in my city and share this information with 1 friends, family, and/or colleagues.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Karla Couto 7/25/2022 12:57 PMI need to control my impulsive purchases for my finance and mental health. I'm trying to think more before buying and ask me If I really need something and in general I don't need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodTake time to reflect or meditate over your plastic-free cup of tea. Share your thoughts and reflections with us here!
Karla Couto 7/25/2022 12:49 PMSome time ago I started to use leaf tea without individual bags, now this is a habit and drinking tea is a nice ritual in my day, although I need to do this ritual more frequently. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Karla Couto 7/25/2022 12:39 PMI am buying clean products in refill packing and I am using identified juice bottles to keep those products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Karla Couto 7/25/2022 11:53 AMI often carry a reusable bag in my purse for occasional bouthgs but it is common I go out to walk and remember to buy something when I am not carrying my reusable bag... I need to improve this behavior... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
Karla Couto 7/25/2022 11:19 AMI prefer to use reusable mugs and I always use reusables if possible. When I go out with big purses I try to bring my own bottle/mug... This is not true for the weekly fair. I need to change this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Karla Couto 7/19/2022 10:33 AMFor me it was a great surprise when I saw reusables at Salesforce office. In my prior job I often brought my reusables from home like cups, bottles, silverware etc to the office. I think using these items is nice, more comfortable and helps to lessen the waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Karla Couto 7/19/2022 8:20 AMI'm trying to change my habits and think about what is made by who when I buy whatever. In general we have good water at home and don't need bottled water, but the industry makes us believe that we need it. -
Karla Couto 6/02/2022 6:04 AMI think it's possible reduce, but many times we forget the best practices, I will try return for some practices wich I believe and I know that is possible for me
