Skip Plastic Bags

I will use a rubber glove to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets and furniture.

I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.

Erika De Marco 7/31/2022 5:22 AMWe did it y'all! Another month of opportunities to learn and make positive changes. I know my family and I have adopted a few new habits and I'm grateful to everyone who has shared tips and encouragement. Enjoy the rest of your summer :) -
Erika De Marco 7/30/2022 10:21 AMFinally made it to Life Unplastic today. I had only made online purchases before today. I highly recommend a visit. The girl there was helpful and so very nice. Got a few goodies :) -
Erika De Marco 7/29/2022 2:57 PMDecided to try something different today and it worked. Not sure it would work with a larger restaurant but this was a family run smaller place. We placed a to go order and asked if they could put everything in 1 larger container rather than individual styrofoam ones. We explained the reason and they gave us everything in, individually wrapped in paper but in one large bag. 🤷🏻♀️ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Erika De Marco 7/28/2022 1:01 PMThere is always something we can do and we can make an impact, regardless how small. Refusing to buy bottled water and using eco-friendly bottles takes plastic out of the waste cycle, saves money, and supports your local community. We can also be vocal on social media and encourage our friends and family to stop using water bottled in plastic. However, our actions speak louder than words and we should always make the effort to set an example for others to follow.

Erika De Marco 7/28/2022 12:50 PMI'm super excited to share with you all that we started a little herb / vegetable garden yesterday. We have very limited outdoor space so we repurposed a thin shelf unit that was originally purchased to go between our washer and drier. We used all the mugs that we felt to pretty to part with but actually never use and it turned out really nice. I'm hoping to be able to share pictures soon. -
Erika De Marco 7/27/2022 10:40 AMSo I'm traveling for work next week and we decided to not pack any single use or travel size items. So far we have been successful except for deodorant...I'm hoping I can find something before we go...but even if not, it is still a huge change for us and one we plan to stick with! -
Erika De Marco 7/26/2022 10:17 AMAwww, like a dork, I didn't check the times and we got to to Life Unplastic too early. Unfortunately my daughter had to go to work so we're going to have to reschedule! Oh! Well! -
Erika De Marco 7/23/2022 5:33 PMSuper excited about my daughters shopping date at Life Unplastic Monday! I can’t wait!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Erika De Marco 7/21/2022 9:59 AMI was looking through social media and saw some posts about cutting up t-shirts you might no longer use. I tried with an old Greenday concert t-shirt and have received so many compliments! I have a lot of t-shirts I don't really use so I'm going to cut them and give them a new look...I bet even my daughters will jump on this! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Erika De Marco 7/21/2022 9:56 AMWe realized most of our waste came from food scraps and left overs. We are attempting composting and I'm not sure how successful we're going to be, but we're planning to read up on it and at least try...any suggestions?-
Paola Andrea Suarez 7/21/2022 10:12 AMWe use Beaten path compost. It's a local company and they are offering a free month for folks who participate in this challenge. I highly recommend it. 😊
