Personal Care
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with a sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable option.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Christine Dowling 7/31/2022 4:18 AMI joined the challenge because we all need to start making a difference. We are harming the natural beauty that God has given us. The actions I did during this month long challenge was mostly not using plastic for anything. I have always brought bags to the grocery store since they first started. I am working on my house to being a plastic free household but have a way to go. One the thing I did do for this challenge I did by reusable gallon freezer bags and will buy all the rest of the sizes so I won't need to buy any more plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Christine Dowling 7/11/2022 2:00 AMYou have to realize disposables are not great for our environment. Do not use disposables, always use reusable. -
Christine Dowling 7/11/2022 1:57 AMGreat, have done most of my lists on a daily basis. -
Christine Dowling 7/11/2022 1:57 AMGreat, so far so good, have done most of my items on a daily basis -
Christine Dowling 7/03/2022 4:13 AMI think it is going very well. I try every day to minimize the plastic that I use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareEven though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
