I liked going to the dump and seeing what just our tiny town produces… it’s sad. So I’m excited to get more people using less plastics and use more reusables.

We definitely used our water bottles more, filling them up when went out and always having them with us! I also liked the clean up. It was hot but easy and fun to do it in our own community.

    Community Learn about Plastic Production
What did you learn about how plastic production impacts humans, animals, communities, and the environment? Which of these impacts specifically affects your community?

    Gina Dullanty's avatar
    Gina Dullanty 7/30/2022 9:31 PM
Plastic impacts humans, animals, communities in SO many ways it’s insane. The toxins from materials, the waste that accumulates- the list goes on. I’d say the impact that specifically effects our community is the waste. So much so we did a clean up in our neighborhood cause everyone litters! It’s so bad.

Today at my store we ran out of straws- delivery issues (ya know, the norm nowadays) Anyways we made the most out of it and took the time to educate customers on the benefits of reusables and reusable straws.

Here’s a picture of my partner Breanna who sold this many before her first break! She was so proud and sold those straws with the most positive attitude and biggest smile! A win for us and a win for sustainability!

Personal Care Donate Zero Waste Period Products
How can having access to zero waste period products help people who menstruate overcome barriers to education or other opportunities?

    Gina Dullanty's avatar
    Gina Dullanty 7/30/2022 2:59 AM
When worrying about menstruation and all the fun things that go along with it you distract or don’t have the space to worry about other things such as education. With that burden being taken away and them given the supplies they need they can focus on what’s important.

We were able to put together kits for the womens and children shelter and it was awesome to see how appreciative they were.

Great idea and great donation/supply idea for our store!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care A Sustainable Flow
Disposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?

    Gina Dullanty's avatar
    Gina Dullanty 7/27/2022 9:27 PM
Although expensive you don’t have the monthly costs. You can make the initial purchase and be spared the extra expense. Personally you know you’re doing a huge service in the fight against plastic and one time use items!

It’s a big adjustments so just taking the step is the first move.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Advocate For Better Food Packaging
Single use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?

    Gina Dullanty's avatar
    Gina Dullanty 7/25/2022 10:10 PM
I would share the why and how easy it is to make the switch. Why it is important to me and how it can impact our lives and our future. Just by sharing I think you can help others understand the cons of single use plastics.
