Very little plastic is recycled and if it is, it can only be used one time.  Some plastics (PET) is grounded down and then spun like thread to make clothing and is considered as "Polyester".   A scientist at Oregon State University is developing edible food packaging as well as edible coating for fruits and vegetables. The goal is to reduce plastic waste and keep food fresher longer. My question is how the human body can consume this product without any adverse effects. Further review is required.

As I move to the finish on this eco-challenge and a proponent of recycling that recycling plastic is handled differently in various communities in my State.  I now have knowledge and a better understanding of the difficulty of keeping the environment clean.

I drink a lot of Tea, after research I was glad to know Yogi and Stash Tea's do not use plastic.  I was disappointed that Celestial Seasons was not in the group.  I'll continue to research and test loose leaf Teas.

What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

I have learned over the last several weeks there is no need for disposable razors since they can't be recycled.  What entice the average consumer is the low price to purchase this item.  Meanwhile, there is a higher price to dispose the item since it can't be recycled.  Lesson learned!

Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

By growing my garden I'm enjoying moments of mindfulness, relaxing and enjoying nature.  It's the best part of the day checking in on my Garden.

Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

There is an assumption that the Water that comes from the Tap is clean unless you live in Flint, Fresno, Midland Texas.  Human's need water for drinking, bathing and cooking.  Bottled water companies are targeting these cities and making large profits.  Local governments should work together with these companies to help clean up the Water supplies these cities.  Setting fines for those companies who pollute is not an incentive to protect the water supply.  Education and alternatives need to be put into practice.

How does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?

My local grocer purchases locally grown fruits and vegetables.  It makes it easy to buy in bulk without lots of packaging and wraps.  An Apple a day does make a difference.  They're lower in Carbs and no Fat.

As you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?

I'm doing more research before making purchases more than $25.00.  Things are more expensive now and can add up quickly.

What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I didn't know that paper cups (cleaned) were not recycled.  I learned many items have several layers of other materials which are not recycled "as is"
