Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Community
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds

Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Family
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and tupperware-like containers in my children's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Pets
Rubber Glove Pet Hair Removal
I will use a rubber glove to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets and furniture.

Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.

Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyMost of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Allison R Kitchel 7/28/2022 10:20 AMIn my family, if we use a plastic water bottle we always try to wash it out and reuse it multiple times. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Allison R Kitchel 7/25/2022 10:51 AMI create the most waste through food products. By buying in bulk and buying locally, I have noticed less plastic and waste overall. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Allison R Kitchel 7/21/2022 5:17 AMThere is unnecessary plastic packaging everywhere. Many single serve snacks are wrapped in more than one layer of plastic, which is not needed.-
