Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Reduce plastic vegetable packaging
I will try to buy more veggies at the farmer’s market to reduce the clam shell packaging which is non-recyclable in my county. I chose this because I always feel guilty buying greens, fruits and herbs in clam shells which have to be thrown in the trash.

Barbara Lazar 7/31/2022 11:52 AMI’m doing a lot more thinking and planning about how to cut down on plastic use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Barbara Lazar 7/31/2022 11:51 AMI brought my own water bottle to an outdoor party so I wouldn’t have to use a plastic cup. I also made a dish to bring which could be eaten with toothpicks so no one would have to use plastic forks. It’s not hard to do these kinds of things but it does require forethought and planning. -
Barbara Lazar 7/29/2022 7:58 AMAlthough I haven’t had much chance to put my intentions into action, I’m definitely thinking more often about ways to decrease my plastic use-and also pointing things out to friends. -
Barbara Lazar 7/28/2022 2:41 PMI got to the farmer’s market yesterday and brought my own cloth bags so I didn’t use any plastic at all. Fees good to not have a refrigerator full of clamshell containers! -
Barbara Lazar 7/25/2022 11:29 AMMaking plans to get to my local farmer’s market tomorrow to get veggies without clamshell and other types of plastic packaging. -
Barbara Lazar 7/24/2022 12:47 PMMy only accomplishment today was to sign up for an online webinar about plastic pollution and solutions. -
Barbara Lazar 7/18/2022 8:58 AMI haven’t been able to get out much because of the extremely anxious dog I’m dog sitting so I’m behind in the actions I planned to take.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Barbara Lazar 7/18/2022 8:54 AMIn the Giant supermarket where I shop it seems that all the organic greens come in plastic clamshell containers which are not recyclable in my county. -
Barbara Lazar 7/18/2022 8:46 AMI’m a little frustrated because I have not been able to do very much this past week. I’m dog-sitting a very anxious, elderly dog with separation anxiety so I haven’t strayed far from home. Her owners brought me a supply of plastic poop bags which makes me feel even worse. Does anyone have a better suggestion for non-plastic poop control?-
Barbara Lazar 7/19/2022 8:06 AMThanks Robyn. I’m not sure paper will work. Not to get too graphic but the smoothness of plastic helps to pick up all the “material” easily. I’ll give it a try though. -
