Jennifer's actions
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Food
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 3 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Community
Become a Recycling Pro
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Community
Estimate My Plastic Consumption
I will visit the rePurpose website, complete the 3-minute plastic consumption calculator, and explore how I can reBalance my annual plastic footprint.
Community
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Lifestyle
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant a herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Lifestyle
Proper Bioplastic Disposal
I will spend at least 15 minutes researching how to properly dispose of bioplastics in my city and share this information with 2 friends, family, and/or colleagues.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Jennifer Lollino 7/31/2022 1:11 PMSustainable fashion brands create fashion in a way that reduces the overall impact on environment and doesn't leave a negative footprint. Recycled fibers are a much more sustainable option and require no chemical treatment so it's safer to wear and also uses less water and energy to produce. There are many benefits to the sustainable clothing options and I will make sure to take into consideration when making purchases. -

Jennifer Lollino 7/28/2022 6:58 PM“Though you cannot permanently remove the past plastic wastes, you can stop using them in the present and in the future” -
Jennifer Lollino 7/27/2022 7:23 PMRecycling should not be our first solution. Reducing our use of plastic should. -
Jennifer Lollino 7/26/2022 7:14 PMNot only can water bottles cause a fire hazard when left in your car, but they can also become unsafe for your direct health, as well. Studies conducted in the past few years have been showing that when plastic bottles are left in a hot enough car for long enough, harmful chemicals may be released into the water. -
Jennifer Lollino 7/25/2022 6:30 PMWhen we wash our synthetic clothes in a washing machine, as many as 250,000 tiny strands from these textiles are released into the water. These microfibers are often coated in plastic, and so purchasing a washing bag that filters out the tiny microfibers can help reduce the amount of plastic fibres making their way into our rivers and oceans. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Jennifer Lollino 7/24/2022 12:49 PMWith extra planning and preparation while traveling, it's not hard to avoid plastic and doesn't impact traveling in a negative way. -
Jennifer Lollino 7/24/2022 12:45 PMOne week left of the challenge. Go Team ECOS, let's finish strong!
