Elliot's actions
Community
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with a sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 20 piece(s) of litter each day.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 3 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Food
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Family
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and tupperware-like containers in my children's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Food
Ditch The Wrappers
Go without eating any plastic wrapped sweets & treats within a day. Keep the ecosystem healthy along with your body!
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Elliot Marie 7/31/2022 6:22 PMPlastic Free July has taught me so many important things about keeping our world clean & healthy! I've learned so many great tips and tricks for reducing the amount of plastic in my life, and I will continue using them throughout the year! :) 💕🐢🌸☀️ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you learn about how plastic production impacts humans, animals, communities, and the environment? Which of these impacts specifically affects your community?
Elliot Marie 7/30/2022 8:16 PMPlastic production is a horrible process that can harm and displace life around it! Beginning with oils & gases, oil spills can result in wildlife harm, along with the unhealthy greenhouse gasses being emitted during the process. Also, the aftermath and waste creates an unhealthy environment for not only us humans, but for animals to live in as well :( 🦎🐬🐀 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Elliot Marie 7/30/2022 8:10 PMWhen traveling, bringing my own snacks is always such an easy and great thing to do! With my own food, I'm able to eat things that I know the ingredients of, while avoiding any airplane food or other unappetizing meals! ✈️ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Elliot Marie 7/29/2022 7:40 PMBenefits of reusing and refilling plastic bottles are saving tremendous amounts of money instead of buying several singular items, and increasing the neatness of our homes & countertops! 🧴🧽 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyMost of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Elliot Marie 7/28/2022 7:23 PM• Reduce any use of plastic silverware
• Refuse to drink out of plastic straws
• Reuse a water bottle to save plastic bottles
• Repurpose any old containers for new contents

Elliot Marie 7/27/2022 5:34 PMI've officially saved 101 plastic straws! Woohoo 🎉🌼💪🥳 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Elliot Marie 7/26/2022 5:53 PMBy collecting litter, I feel like I'm closer than ever with my community! Keeping the areas I work and live in clean, I feel as though I am protecting the wildlife, as well as making it a greater and more clean experience for everyone around! 🗑️🌳 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Elliot Marie 7/24/2022 8:01 PMBringing my own utensils for my meals would help the rest of my community reduce their use of disposables. Such as at my school, one less person using plastic utensils, as well as spreading the word can create a long-lasting impact and influence on others :) 🥄🍴 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Elliot Marie 7/22/2022 6:07 PMWhen it comes to disposables, recycling any leftover single-user items, and later replacing them with multi-use containers can help make a vast impact in the community! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Elliot Marie 7/20/2022 7:04 PMTo advocate for those who have been harmed by the manufacturing of bottled water, only using a refillable water bottle will greatly create an impact. Also, spreading the importance behind reducing the creation of plastic bottles will help those in need. 💧
