Picking up rubbish is good for raising awareness.
We look for litter in recreational areas while camping or hiking, to keep them looking nice and welcoming for locals and tourists– and to protect surrounding wildlife!

    Food
How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

    Shirley Mirous's avatar
    Shirley Mirous 7/23/2022 6:51 AM
Reusable glass or spoons! Or try a stick of carrot or cucumber. Why not go herbal and try a stick of rosemary or honey stick in your tea..it's not that bad
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Family

What are the benefits of food swaps?
Just a few food swaps in your daily choices may help you lower your risk of diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

The packaged snacks we do have a for convenience, grab & go.. With some of our day hikes, we really can't take fresh fruit/veg. But the rest of the days we switch out what we can
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
How might styrofoam be an environmental justice and/or environmental racism issue in your community?

    Shirley Mirous's avatar
    Shirley Mirous 7/19/2022 6:55 AM
Environmental Justice refers to those cultural norms and values, rules, regulations, behaviors, policies, and decisions to support sustainability, where all people can hold with confidence that their community and natural environment is safe and productive. Environmental Justice is realized when all people can realize their highest potential, without interruption by environmental racism or inequity. Environmental Justice is supported by decent paying and secure jobs; quality schools and recreation; decent housing and adequate health care; democratic decision-making; and finally, personal empowerment. A community of Environmental Justice is one in which both cultural and biological diversity are respected, and where there is equal access to institutions and ample resources to grow and prosper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

    Shirley Mirous's avatar
    Shirley Mirous 7/19/2022 6:49 AM
Especially Vegetables.. We are choosing food differently, depending on packaging. We also started using various local farmers markets before going to a grocery store. Since our local butcher closed, that's been more difficult, but we decided to buy bulk and then split it down for the freezer.
