Arlene's actions
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Pets
Thrifty Pets
I will find secondhand sources for my pet's water/food dishes, collars or leashes.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Personal Care
Pearly Whites
I will switch to a plastic-free toothpaste — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Community
Give Some Green Gratitude
I will give a shout-out on social media to a local company, coworker, friend or family member for their plastic free or green efforts.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support a nonprofit dedicated to plastic pollution reduction.
Community
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Arlene Ogurick 7/20/2022 6:22 AMWrite letter of protest to & boycott products of companies that engage in this practice. Support environmental groups that work on this issue -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Arlene Ogurick 7/18/2022 5:20 AMBuy products that come in paper packaging- always use refillable water containers write to corporations and insist they change packaging or you will boycott -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPetsHow does buying used differ from buying new? How does each purchasing decision make you feel?
Arlene Ogurick 7/14/2022 9:26 AMThere's more of an unexpected pleasure in finding something used. I'm fine with not having the newest styles & enjoy the craftsmanship of older items. Being different is good. New purchases aren't felt the same way, tho' there are times when they may be necessary to meet a certain need. -
