Lifestyle
KEEP IT UPCYCLE
Post to our Team APE feed about an item that you "upcycled" or "creatively reused" and thereby avoided consuming plastic associated with buying a new item and having that item sent to you/your area!
Community
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Personal Care
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 2 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Personal Care
Brush with Bamboo
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWhat's a positive example of a repurposed good that you have observed in your neighborhood/city?
Darryl Pon 7/27/2022 7:26 PMwe have repurposed plastic bags by washing them out and reuseing them several times. Also reused broom handle sticks for several different attachments. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareEven though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?
Darryl Pon 7/08/2022 8:48 AMI don't use flushable wipes and if I do I dispose of them in the trash can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Darryl Pon 7/08/2022 8:41 AMThis challenge is easy because we have already changed to reusable grocery bags and have several in our vehicles for shopping. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Darryl Pon 7/06/2022 4:42 PMI like the bamboo tooth brush. I think it works better than the plastic toothbrushes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Darryl Pon 7/06/2022 4:39 PMI bring a larget lunch bag with a plastic reusable container for my meals and I bring lunch 70% of the time.
