Lifestyle
KEEP IT UPCYCLE
Post to our Team APE feed about an item that you "upcycled" or "creatively reused" and thereby avoided consuming plastic associated with buying a new item and having that item sent to you/your area!
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Pets
Poop bags
Use only compostable poop bags. That way they break down.
Food
Advocate for Plastic-Free Dining
I will talk to the owner or manager of a restaurant I frequent to request that they reduce their use of single-use and disposable plastics.
Pets
Washable pee pads
Use only washable pee pads for my senior dog. My goal is to stop buying regular pee pads which are full of plastic.
Community
Dig into Bioplastics
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching the impacts of bioplastics and how to properly dispose of them in my city, and I will share this information with 5 friends, family, and/or colleagues.
Lifestyle
Hair Ties
Daily use no-plastic hair ties. Hair ties are full of unseen plastics that get tossed in trash all the time.
Personal Care
Eco Deodorant
I will switch to a plastic-free deodorant — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Food
Advocate for Office Reusables
I will lobby my workplace to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Food
Use Unpaper
Dsilt use unpaper towels and use cut up old towels and t shirts instead of 1 use paper towels. Also buy cloth napkins instead of using paper napkins.
Personal Care
Lip Products
Use only lip products (gloss, balm, lipstick) that come in non- plastic containers
Personal Care
Reclaim shower water
To collect water every time I shower while water is heating up and use it to water my plants. This helps keep my plants alive while conserving waste.
Food
No plastic bottles
Daily I will refill my metal bottles throughout the day instead of using plastic one-use bottles in order to reduce landfill plastics .
Food
Food storage
I will use only reusable containers to store leftover foods in order to reduce one-time plastic bag useage.
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.

Laura Richwine 7/29/2022 9:12 AMI learned that microplastics are everywhere even in my clothes, food and water. I had no idea of processes involved in dealing with this issue. -

-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Laura Richwine 7/27/2022 5:27 PMI do not believe I have experienced any side effects from deodorant. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Laura Richwine 7/27/2022 4:58 PMAlternatives would be to use glass containers for plastic bags. Also, cloth covers for leftovers as opposed to plastic wrap. This would make a big dent in our plastic useage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
