How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

I'm not quite out of NO plastic storage bags. I 'invested' in silicon storage containers. They are not cheap but I have 6 now. I am also doing away with very nice plastic storage containers and replacing with glass. But, although I'm not using plastic storage bags as I used to, I still have them available especially for sealing things/food that I take out of the house.
    I'm getting there.

Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

A few years ago my husband bought me stainless steel straws. I had teeth whitening--told to initially avoid coffee/wine type staining by using a straw. The metal straws did not work. I found that I sometimes hit my front teeth on the straw--terrible feeling like I could chip a tooth!! He then bought me silicon straws. I have been using them for years. And they wash well in the dishwasher. I use them daily!

What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I have old paint cans in the basement. I did look where I can take them in my town. Thank goodness is it close. I don't think people will drive miles to dispose such items. They could easily put such paint cans in a black trash bag; set it our for weekly trash. Who would know. That is not what should be done--we only hope locals know the regulations... and dispose properly.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

We know that these ongoing ever present viruses appear to be spread more through 'air', less through touching contact with surfaces. Still, I do not pick up trash on the street without something protective on my hand... When I have my dog and doggie poop bag ... yep, I'll pick something up.

    I do take the hotel freebies/wrapped soap/shampoo/conditioner.
In my own home I would not use them. But, they are good for a one time use when I
go other places overnight. IF I knew that the hotel did NOT throw away the freebie toiletries
I might just let them set in their original packaging. Otherwise... additional plastic waste.
Shampoo/conditioner you would not know if someone used a little. They are not wrapped.
I do appreciate that some hotels now use refillable containers in their showers.
I still would bring my own. I don't trust any communal use. But that is just me, too cautious.

I've heard that pumpkin is very good for a dog's digestive system.
Maybe with some no-sugar peanut butter baked into a cookie?
I'm not a baker but I imagine you can't over bake them!
