Lori's actions
Family
Thoughtful Toys
I will only buy cloth, wooden or plant-based natural rubber toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Family
Learn about Environmental Justice
Using the action resource links below, my family will spend 10 minutes learning about environmental justice, causes of environmental injustice, and how plastic waste disproportionately impacts already vulnerable communities.
Lifestyle
KEEP IT UPCYCLE
Post to our Team APE feed about an item that you "upcycled" or "creatively reused" and thereby avoided consuming plastic associated with buying a new item and having that item sent to you/your area!
Personal Care
Eco Deodorant
I will switch to a plastic-free deodorant — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Personal Care
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Personal Care
Pearly Whites
I will switch to a plastic-free toothpaste — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Personal Care
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with a sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable option.
Community
Write Letters, Emails or Sign Petitions
I will write or sign 3 letters, emails or petitions per day to advocate for plastic-free or planet-friendly policies.
Community
Share My Actions
I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Personal Care
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 10 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Lori Rogalski 7/22/2022 10:49 AMJust do it! And I like to get fun reusable dishes so others may notice and want to get some for themselves. It's easy since everything is cuter than disposable items. -
Lori Rogalski 6/14/2022 1:37 PMOne of the activities for our challenge is to sign petitions to lessen plastic and here is a great one! Here is a Global Plastics Treaty! We need REAL multi-stakeholder discussions on tackling the whole lifecycle of plastics.
Let’s get louder until a binding global treaty that addresses the lifecycle of plastics is signed, sealed, and delivered!
