  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
It is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?

As a student living on their own with limited funds, I would use single use plastics a lot to keep costs down. One day, the dumpster with a giant heap of just plastics made me feel horrible about how no one had a care for the world. Then I looked at my own bag of trash that had the same. from that day, I slowly started switching to metal spoons and small Pyrex containers for my meals every month. Today, it makes me feel good that I have almost changed my kitchen to 70% reusable kitchenware.

Most of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I have been thinking about making my lifestyle choices more sustainable for a while but this platform gives the opportunity to hold me accountable for my actions and I can finally make better choices for keeping our planet and its inhabitants safe and healthy.
