  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
Take a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?

    Kimbra Shaffer 7/29/2022 6:59 AM
Using contacts that I don't throw away so often will reduce waste.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle
What did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/28/2022 11:21 AM
I drink a lot of soda which causes more waste than I like to think about, I could look into buying a soda making machine to reduce this waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
Even though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/28/2022 11:19 AM
It makes me sad to know this is happening. I will not use flushable wipes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

It feels great to know I can make a difference by cleaning up our beaches.

In my daily routine, I sometimes don't think about all the plastic I'm using. Plastic Free July has really made me think about things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/27/2022 11:20 AM
By buying more unpackaged produce, I have noticed that there is so much plastic on the shelves.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/27/2022 11:13 AM
Disposable razors add more waste and can be expensive. They just are necessary.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
Disposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/27/2022 11:01 AM
I save a lot more money but not going to the store every month for these items. It also helps reduce waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
In what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?

    Kimbra Shaffer's avatar
    Kimbra Shaffer 7/27/2022 11:00 AM
Sharing what I believe in and care about may help them see that they should care about these things too.
