Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with a sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Pets
Thrifty Pets
I will find secondhand sources for my pet's water/food dishes, collars or leashes.
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 30 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Family
Get Rid of Glitter
I will teach my little ones about microplastics while we do a craft project together using glitter alternatives.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant a herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.

Advocate for Office Reusables
I will lobby my workplace to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Personal Care
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a beach, highway, river, or other cleanup effort in my community that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Family
Glass Bottle Baby
I will replace 2 plastic bottles with glass or stainless steel alternatives.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Lifestyle
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Lifestyle
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Food
Better Gum
I will give up gum or choose gum made from chicle or other plastic-free gum bases.
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Community
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 2 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Food
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Community

I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.

Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/30/2022 12:18 PMI'm going to be sure to bring some reusable straws to keep in the kitchen at the zoo, so I don't have to remember to grab one when I'm heading out my door and I'll have one for my iced coffee on my shift days. -
Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/29/2022 3:28 PMMaybe next year they can have one of the challenges be about finding alternatives to using those plastic floss sticks.-

Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/28/2022 10:17 AMI don't like how hot coffee cups have the sippy top while iced or frozen coffee comes with a straw - mainly because I sometimes foeget to grab my reusable straws when heading out the door. I could be quite happy drinking my frozen coffee from a sippy top. -
Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/27/2022 12:58 PMMy kitchen gets used more when I'm cooking plastic free meals! 😄 -
Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/26/2022 7:53 AMA number of years ago, our zoo displayed art made by highschoolers and all the materials were plastic that was found in lakes, rivers and oceans. -

Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/23/2022 6:45 AMIt's great that they have the loose tea leaf as one of the daily actions. They should add the coffee option as well since many people use the plastic pods. -
Stephanie Steppie Royes 7/23/2022 6:37 AMI picked up 27 plastic spoons today! -
