I don’t eat a lot of meat in my typical diet, so this wasn’t too challenging. I usually stick with fish most of the time.

Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

I made minestrone soup with veggies from the farmers market (used my own reusable bags to purchase the items) and a box of noodles. It’s difficult, but possible to find options without plastic. Most of the pasta boxes have a small plastic window included so you can see the product.

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

It isn’t too bad. I kept my reusable grocery bags in my car so I wouldn’t forget them at the store. The only thing that I had to get used to is speaking up and asking the cashier to use my bags instead. It sometimes makes me feel like I’m inconveniencing the staff, but I have to get over that fear.

How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

I have reusable bags that I can use in place of single-use plastic bags. Today, I packed my lunch by using only reusable baggies and avoided using single-use ziplock bags.

With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

A lot of them are the thin plastic bags, such as the bags for fruits and vegetables and the grocery bags.
