  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Fill a Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

I am happy that I have switched to using a refillable water bottles.  I had no idea how long it takes for some of the plastics to break down.  It's alarming and now I am helping with the plastic reduction.

It's a learning curve for sure.  Knowing or estimating how many bags you will need and then how much to place into each bag without making them to heavy and backing up the register belt thus holding up the line while bagging.  But I do not have a lot of unnecessary plastic bags just setting around the house and my reusable are back in the car ready to go.

I'm the worst at this! I keep forgetting to bring my own because there's conveniently plastic cutlery everywhere.

I've been keeping a bag with a few reusable cups, plates, and cutlery in my car. This has helped me when we stop for slushies, ice cream, etc!  The kids like it a lot!  I have received comments from the employees says how sustainable I am :)

Switching to the farm share has been the easiest change for me! Cuts down on plastic and trips to the grocery. If you wear contacts, check out terracycle.com to find a free recycling location. You can recycle contacts AND blister packs.

I did it! I contacted my state representative and state senator to ask about what they are doing on a state wide level to address climate change and sustainability!!!

What are you working on this week? Are there any actions that you haven't done yet for the month?  What are they and what is tough about completing them?

Straws are most challenging because most anywhere you buy a beverage one is automatically handed to you or provided.  Sometimes I forget to not accept it in the moment

I picked "community PICK UP THE PHONE - I will make 1 phone call(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for planet-friendly policies" as one of my actions.  I have not made any calls yet!!!  Going to call my township trustees this weekend and request that Richfield Township become a "Power a Clean Future Ohio" city - just like Cuyahoga Falls!  (https://www.poweracleanfuture.org/)

Over 30 cities in Ohio are in the coalition, including Northeast Ohio cities Cleveland, Lakewood, Shaker Heights and Euclid, Canton and Youngstown.

Consider contacting your city government leaders to take the next step!
