I am so glad I have rejoined this community and have taken part for the full month! Being here has motivated me to continue finding ways to reduce my waste year-round and helps me recognize the impact that each of us can have.

I hope we can get even more people involved in the plastic challenge next year
The more people we can get involved the greater the impact we will have

    Why is chewing gum bad?
Chewing gum, for its part, is made up of 80% plastic. As small as a piece might seem, it is estimated it would need five years to disappear and now consists of one of the waste
But the good news is that there are biodegradable alternatives to gum

For those of us who like to chew gum I did some research to see if there was biodegradable gum since regular gum is an environmental nightmare.  I found out that
Simply Gum, a New York City-based company, makes its gum using only vegetable glycerine, raw sugar, organic rice flour, and natural flavoring. Simply Gum's gum and "post chew wraps" are biodegradable

Bamboo is also biodegradable if used in its raw form, such as for toothbrush handles. When the nylon bristles are removed, bamboo toothbrush handles can be composted, reused as garden plant markers, or other household uses!  This was something I I learned bc I was trying to find out how often uoy could use a bamboo toothbrush and the answer is that it should be replaced every three or four months like a regular one

We should wear t shirts during the plastic free challenge when we are volunteering.  It would be a good conversation starter with our guests and it might encourage them to join our team n the challenge

I didn’t know what to expect y when o started this challenge. Once I invested myself in it, it became easier each day.  My goal is to keep the momentum going. I will miss the daily Check one because I do think it gives us a sense of accountability. I also think it is easier being part of a team bc you want yo try to for the best you can for the sake of the team if nothing else

I think the real challenge brings now. To do it on our own. No team. No accountability. Just because it is the right thing to do
