August 1 at 5:42 PMI have become so much more aware of the massive amount of plastics in my everyday life. It is really hard if you are shopping for groceries or almost anything to avoid it. I challenge myself daily to use anything other than plastic when I am purchasing, storing or do anything. It sure isn't easy. I realize I need to make more food items at home...

July 31 at 9:42 PMRE bar shampoo and conditioner: Even before starting this challenge, I had purchased shampoo in bar form at Lush in Park Royal. Now before your eyebrows go up at the thought of an exorbitant price tag, let me tell you that the bar of shampoo lasts a looong time AND you can take the little tin it comes in back to the store to carry home the next...

July 31 at 9:33 PMI have become much more aware of plastics invading my everyday life, and some of the steps I can take to reduce the frequency of their appearance. Sometimes it means making a small sacrifice; I avoided buying cherry tomatoes all month until I found a cardboard carton of them by chance. I learned to like Romas instead--good thing they are...

July 29 at 12:12 PMI have just joined BuyNothing after I heard about it from a friend. I will be encouraging family members and neighbours to join as well.

July 29 at 11:28 AMI like to bring my own food when I am out for the day - it is healthier, cheaper, and avoids all that excess packaging. I still have work to do to convince the rest of the family to avoid take out, particularly beverages. It does take some planning ahead!

July 29 at 11:24 AMI take my mug everywhere. Many places are now refilling personal mugs and giving a discount to boot! The challenge is remembering to clean the mug before I leave the house.

July 29 at 11:21 AMI am using this as a proxy for reducing my use of toilet paper and the associated plastic packaging. I am fortunate in that my husband installed a bidet some years ago. I took someone else's idea of creating "pee wipes" out of some old terrycloth material I had on hand. Prior to this I was using washcloths to dry after a quick...

July 28 at 4:40 PMIt's been a challenge! Getting rid of plastic is far harder than I originally recognized. Eg. I bought a little bottle of glue in glass in a cardboard box wrapper. Inside: a housing of plastic!!! What?? Is this necessary? NO! How are we going to address this for the world? Jean Prescott NSUC

July 28 at 3:58 PMWhile there is an initial cost to getting the equipment and you do have to go to a special store, the teas I bought are delicious and I don't have to feel bad about putting microplastics into the environment. There is also something kind of relaxing about the ritual of making tea this way. It reminds me of my Irish Grandma who would only...

July 28 at 3:54 PMI'm afraid that I have been a bad teammate. I haven't been as diligent as I had hoped. I made some changes like bar shampoo, dental floss in a small glass container with silk and wax floss that can be refilled, baskets and veggie bags, looseleaf tea (super delicious) etc. I didn't factor in an injury and going on a holiday to my sister's in...
