REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Go StrawlessHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Madelyn Graham 7/11/2022 11:24 AMYes! A lot of businesses reward their customers for bringing their own straws and/or cups. The reward is usually in the form of a percentage off of their purchase or a free small item. This reward system is definitely effective, making more and more people bring their own containers with them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Buy Only What I NeedAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Madelyn Graham 7/11/2022 11:23 AMBuying only the necessities has helped me realize that I would usually by some unnecessary purchases when going to the store. For example, asking myself "do I really need this" greatly reduces my purchasing of single-use plastics. All of the small items at the check-out counter are packaged for convenience, not sustainability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Madelyn Graham 7/03/2022 12:32 PMThere are many items that unnecessarily use single-use plastics for packaging. Many beverage items are produced in plastic bottles when they could be put into aluminum bottles, glass bottles, or cardboard cartons. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip Plastic BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Madelyn Graham 7/03/2022 12:28 PMThis challenge was not too difficult because I love reusable bags! I have a canvas bag that I use for produce that has Van Gogh paintings on it. Reusable bags are a great way to help the earth, as well as express yourself! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Reusable Food StorageHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Madelyn Graham 7/03/2022 12:25 PMRecently, I've learned about reusable sandwich bags! They are great to use, easy to wash, and (in my opinion) keep my food fresher than plastic ones!
