Reading about these issues reminded me of the nurdle counting that was part of last year's riversweeps.  Here along the river in PA and NJ, we saw firsthand how plastic could end up polluting our environment before it even had the chance to be made into objects or be used at all.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Estimate My Plastic Consumption
What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

Usually, when I think of plastic waste, I think about disposable plastics. I forgot how many of the everyday items we use, even ones we use over long periods of time or reuse, contain plastic that eventually winds up in landfills or polluting the environment.

    Lifestyle Natural Fibers
What are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?

Keeping microplastics out of our oceans is a big benefit of using natural fibers in clothing since microplatic particles are released into our sewage systems, and later our waterways every time synthetic fabrics are washed.
There's an even more direct benefit for people in wearing natural fibers, though, in that they make for much higher quality clothes, speaking as someone for whom comfortable clothing is a big deal.

Lifestyle Buy Only What I Need
As you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?

I've reduced my spending a bit, but in particular having the accountability of checking in with this every day has been more motivating than bringing my spending down.
