It is very hard to break the cycle of automatically using plastic bags because they are always in your face when you go to the store and you don't even think about it. You just automatically use them especially when doing self checkout.

Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip Plastic BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Karen Thompson 7/31/2022 8:47 PMMost times I go to the store and I forget my reusable bags or they have already been used if I went to a previous store, I ask for paper bags because I can easily recycle those.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Karen Thompson 7/31/2022 8:44 PMFound I used a lot of plastic utensils for convenience instead of regular utensils. Stopped that.
Reduced the amount of days I watered my lawn.
Started to return plastic bags to grocery stores if i get any to their bag recycling center. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Go StrawlessHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Karen Thompson 7/11/2022 4:26 AMNot really. There is not even the effort to use biodegradable straws. If that was a choice, it would make using straws guilt free.
