In what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?

My dogs toys are simple and made from hemp, so not bleeding any harsh chemicals, or paints and if he managed to lose it outside. The toy would simply whither away over time.

Have you noticed a difference in how your community, friends, and family members use plastics since you've shared your own actions?

Posting beach clean ups and opportunities I've been able to take part in have inspired many of my friends to be more conscious about their own impacts on the environment. Many of my friends take part in clean ups and programs now.

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

I thought I was doing well in not purchasing a lot of one-use plastics. Shockingly, I'm still contributing 44% a year which is very eye opening.

How easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?

This was an easy transition for me. My biggest concern was getting refills which also came in plastic. However, the brand of soap I purchase comes in jugs, so I'm able to reuse these jugs for other purposes such as; plant potters, rain water collection.

Working alongside a community of like minded individuals is an empowering feeling. Although environmental stewardship is a difficult battle, it's empowering to know there are people who want change.

How might styrofoam be an environmental justice and/or environmental racism issue in your community?

These single use plastics and Styrofoam products lie in a landfill releasing chemical run off into the soil and once incinerated the toxic fumes are released into the ozone polluting the air in surrounding communities. Personally, I live only five minutes from the Pinellas County Landfill and I'm constantly concerned about the impact this refinery has on my community.

Often, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?

Plastic bags, Straws, Styrofoam, and countless more items pollute our environment and ecosystems.

Being plastic free has been easy. I've brought my hydroflask to work to avoid using plastic cups.
