Jacqui McGrath 7/07/2022 4:55 AMSo true! One of the lesser known global issues in recent years has been the boom in "sachets".. These are the tiny foil looking single use version of self-care and food products that companies are pushing, instead of more sustainable options, especially in poor countries.

"According to the World Economic Forum, sachet plastic packaging accounts for 16 percent of plastic waste found in Indonesia’s waterways and environment. Likewise, #breakfreefromplastic brand audits identified sachets as one of the most frequently found plastic waste."

Learn about how plastics are affecting our environment!
Food
Go Strawless
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Food
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Personal Care
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Lifestyle
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleOften, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Shannon Miller 7/06/2022 4:21 PMI have a lot of reusable bags to assist me, but I struggle when I forget them-
Victoria Worden 7/08/2022 2:08 PMI used to forget all the time, so one night I made a bag to keep in the trunk of my car :)
I put 2 reusable grocery bags, some silicone straws, and reusable containers to bring with me when we eat out, so now I can't have an "excuse" to use their plastic to go containers haha It has helped me a lot with remembering my bags at the store though! -
Jacqui McGrath 7/07/2022 4:59 AMSometimes it's fun to tackle the "forgot my bag" as a challenge! I make it a game, looking for a cardboard box or even discarded bag around the store and feel a gleeful victory if I manage to avoid the store's bags.
