Sue's actions
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 5 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant a herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Lifestyle
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Food
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Lifestyle
Laundry Detergent
I have switched to Earth Breeze laundry sheets and now do not have to buy the big plastic jugs of detergent. Even the paper packaging is biodegradable.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Sue Allison Roberts 7/22/2022 2:02 PMWent on a short trip and just brought lunch/snacks with me instead of doing a drive thru. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Sue Allison Roberts 7/13/2022 7:44 AMOff to the grocery and bringing my own produce bags.-
s LaCroix 7/13/2022 8:09 AMI am not shopping often, but like so many, including Sue, I take my own bags. I made produce bags from scraps of ripstop, netting and muslin. They work great!

Sue Allison Roberts 7/09/2022 7:23 AMSo far the things I’m doing are (sorta) no brainers …. Easy things. Need to step up the game a bit! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?
-
Sue Allison Roberts 7/09/2022 7:19 AMGotta say it one more time: Beeswax reusable wraps. No plastic wrap needed…. Ever Again! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Sue Allison Roberts 7/09/2022 7:16 AMI keep calling this “the place where I work” but it’s actually a Florida state park where I volunteer. They are doing a great job with reusing, rethinking, recycling. It’s so great to be a part of their mission and programs. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
