Claudia's actions
Food
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA-approved reusable quart-sized bag.
Lifestyle
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 90 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Food
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.

Estimate My Plastic Consumption
I will visit the rePurpose website, complete the 3-minute plastic consumption calculator, and explore how I can reBalance my annual plastic footprint.
Community
Share My Actions
I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.
Community
Research Local Waste Sites
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityIn what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?
Claudia Zimmermann 7/31/2022 6:54 AMI live in a city and we have several waste sites and landfills in the city, Some recycle, others take care of the big issues. However, as a manufacturer you cannot bring your stuff and go. It must be announced, forms filled out about the trash and it must be accepted by the landfill. These landfills are outside and away from purely residential areas. -
Claudia Zimmermann 7/31/2022 6:40 AMHow long does it take until plastic is biodegradable. Shocking!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Claudia Zimmermann 7/31/2022 6:24 AMI only buy new clothes when I need them and wear clothes I have used in the office at home until they are done. I also buy from time to time eco fashion if it fits as office clothing. However, the prices are so high that I sometimes switch back to normal fashion. Digging into this topic has touched me. I also don't think about the hands who have created my T-shirt or that my cloth is producing microplastic. I will get back to buying eco fashion and then do it without one or two parts, -
Claudia Zimmermann 7/31/2022 5:38 AMI use Luffa sponges for dish washing, no micro plastic and a natural product. You can wash them several times and reuse. -
Claudia Zimmermann 7/30/2022 9:05 AMI think we also need to raise this topic in schools. When teachers explain the problem and help to find alternatives, it is of great value, Children bring home the ideas and usually families starting to change habits. Any teachers here???-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleHow easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?
Claudia Zimmermann 7/30/2022 8:55 AMI only recently discovered dish washing soap. I have never seen them before and was curious. I douted that it really cleans and that it is good for my health. Stupid, but I had this on my mind. After some weeks, I see it cleans, but washing glasses is difficult, as there always spots. Then I need to wash with clear water which is not sustainable. Am I doing something wrong?? -
Claudia Zimmermann 7/30/2022 8:42 AMSome good ideas from someone who went plasticfree

Claudia Zimmermann 7/30/2022 2:37 AMI use an ostrich feather duster for dusting. Easy handling, you just shake it out. No dusters with microplatic needed and lasts a long time,
