    Personal Care
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    By living authentically
By other activities such as dance, yoga (including teaching it), taking part in local medieval festivals
By using what I have already in different maybe quirky combinations
    By swapping clothes with friends

Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

Investigate the "sustainability" and supply chain for any water you buy. Or stop using bottled water and filter - this could reduce potentially important income where water is sustainably sourced?

How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

Easy to do once you build the habit!
Give yourself space to think and imagine a life without plastic waste, what could that look like, feel like, smell like?

It feels good to take more time to make a pot of "loose" tea or infusion! However it does use water to wash the pot afterwards -another plus though you can put the leaves in the compost!

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

This was surprising, and made me realizing that my food consumption habits drive a LOT of my plastic use.  Even though my usage was almost 17% lower than the U.S. average, seeing that rates similar to my plastic consumption could result in more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2038 makes me want to immediately find ways to reduce this!

My plastic free ecochallenge 2022 is going great.  I am camping this weekend and I will not be using any plastic silverware or paper plates; I have packed re-useable silverware and plates and I will also be using my re-fillable water bottle.  And my dogs seem to like my homemade dog treats better than what I purchase from store; so that's a win win as well.

The calculator was very easy to use, but I can't say I loved the results. I thought my skin, hair and makeup routines are very plastic-dependent with bottles and containers all containing plastic, but as it turns out, it is my grocery store trips that generate the most plastic from my lifestyle! This is disappointing and hard to combat when the store in my neighborhood does not carry bulk items, which is the #1 recommendation from zero-waste champions. I think also dietary changes away from cheese/dairy and meat would help as well, as those are the most heavily plastic-packaged items I buy when at the grocery, and also have a larger footprint on the environment in general.

Way to go Hillary, your action inspired me to take this footprint, too.  I was so surprised by my footprint ):

Plant based diets do appear to be better for plastic consumption, the planet and our health!

Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

Other benefits include joy from nurturing, sharing herbs and veggies with friends and neighbors, and providing habitat for pollinators/other insects!

I just joined today and started taking action, using my reusable water bottle and refilling it several times during the day to avoid plastic only-use bottles. I'm also using my personal stainless steel mug and make my own coffee at home to avoid buying somewhere else and that way avoid only-use mugs.

How easy was this swap for you? Did you have any concerns before making it?

Switching to a refillable soap has been very easy and I switched out the sponge for a brush with a replaceable head!
