I've found that it is actually pretty easy for me to find/create more sustainable toys for my cats. They are easily entertained by a lot of stuff. I reuse paper bags I get for them to play in, as well as any other reusable shopping bags I have too. Any sort of bag or box they love and will play with. I can also use old shoelaces or detached...

The calculator estimated my plastic consumption to be about 43.30kg (95 pounds) a year. My plastic consumption is 48.15% lower than the average American. The highest category of my plastic consumption is in groceries and cooking, which I am not surprised about. Sometimes it can be really hard to find foods with no plastic packaging in stores,...

I re-read the chapters on fashion in Inconspicuous Consumption, and spend some time browsing EcoCult.

I did pick up a coffee and pastry out and about, which involved two items headed to the landfill. In a behavior change win, however, instead of picking up take out for lunch, I went home and grabbed leftovers on my lunch break. I have a late meeting tonight, which usually means picking up takeout before hand since I won't have time to cook...

Re: plastic free beauty - I have already been using refillable moisturizer from Drop in the Ocean (it's good!). I needed more night cream, and intentionally sought out one that was packaged in glass, rather than plastic. I also went with plastic-free deodorant from Native when my previous bar ran out.

I don't think he plays differently (though I feel a lot better about him chewing on things that aren't plastic). He does get more variety though, when I can find some random thing in the kitchen and hand it to him to play with ("let's drum with a spatula! Here's a whisk!").

I have been repurposing glass jars (like pasta sauce, etc) to use as food storage. I don't use plastic wrap often - I tend to use a towel, or place a plate over a bowl in lieu of plastic wrap (like when making bread). The hardest thing to "swap" is gallon size freezer bags, as I do a lot of food prep (which cuts down on emergency...

I often struggle with just using plastic bags to package my food. With the push of this challenge I've slowly been trying to stop that, especially since my household has reusable containers. I really like using bags to package some foods such as chips so I've been trying to transition to reusable containers until I can get some reusable bags....

Even though I sometimes forget to do my daily check-ins on this site, starting this challenge has gotten me to think more consciously and be more aware of my daily plastic consumption and is challenging me more to think of ways to find alternatives to plastic products and reduce my plastic waste. I have noticed it's gotten me to be a lot more...

In this weekend's grocery shopping, I switched up the stores I went to, and was more conscious about finding food in minimal packaging. For example, instead of buying peppers and cucumbers at Costco (which I normally do), I sought out produce that wasn't in plastic, and brought my own produce bags to minimize the amount of new plastic.
