My concerns on a local level is that we are teaching our children that garbage just disappears, when it goes to the curb.  We don't teach them about what it does to our environment, or global atmosphere as a result, and the long lasting implications of pollution in relation to our health and all life on earth.

Thanks every one for participating!! We are doing awesome and are making a big difference together.. lets continue to check in daily and make a point of challenging yourself each day to tackle something new if you can.. We are in 31st place overall, not bad considering we only have 55 members, but wouldn't it be amazing if we made it to top...

I followed up on how the plan to eliminate single use plastics is going in Richmond Hill. They are complying with the Federal mandates.

This was easy to implement for me, especially at work, seeing how we have dishes and cutlery in our kitchen :)

The link for the contact lenses and blister pack recycling was only for the U.S. I found a locator for Canadian locations that will accept contact lenses and blister packs for recycling from any brand of contacts: https://www.terracycle.com/en-CA/brigades/bausch-and-lomb-en-ca

I realized that my plastic consumption is lower than the average americans by about 30% but above the standard Europeans average by about 20%..  I also discovered my next steps that I plan to implement in my home and at work.. to make sure that my snack wrappers get recycled properly, as they are one of my largest daily plastic uses I think!

Picking up litter makes me feel good about my actions, and set a clear examples for anyone observing me.  If everyone took a little more responsibility for their actions, the world would be a much better place!

I think that when you become actively involved in cleaning/beautifying your community, you are inherently more connected to it. This simple action can cultivate a sense of pride in your environment, as well as a sense of stakeholder-ship or stewardship. It might even encourage you to speak to others about taking that same responsibility.

Love the Canadian company Etee (www.shopetee.com) for plastic free body care and their toothpaste (chewpaste) is great, I really wasn't expecting to like it but I do. The also sell plastic free floss which will probably be my next venture as I already use bamboo toothbrushes.

I decided to enlist a few of my "climate change" friends to see how we can influence local grocers to eliminate plastic bags. The big name grocery stores will be influenced by their head offices.
